Habit
4ft tall to 2ft wide. Leaves are toothed and pale below, flowers pale-pink in whorls alternating up the stems.

Sun/Soil
A sunny position with well-drained soil is preferable. Will grow in partial shade but the medicine won't be quite as strong.

Germination/Sowing
Seeds can be direct sown in fall or spring, or started in flats indoors in spring.

Growing/Care
Easy to care for and drought tolerant. Flower stalks can be cut back after blooming to keep plants tidy and prevent self-seeding.

Harvesting
Motherwort plants begin to bloom in mid-June to mid-July with their unique mint-like flowers in tiny spiky whorls around the stem. When they are setting their first flower buds it is the most idea time to harvest the aerial parts and make them into a tincture. As the herb is incredibly bitter the tincture is the easiest way to take it.

Medicinal Uses
With its unique combination of herbal actions as an emmenagogue, nervine, analgesic, and antispasmodic, Motherwort is a specific remedy for complaints associated with a woman’s moon cycle. It can be relied upon to ease symptoms of PMS, cramps, and bloating; and for postpartum and menopausal related symptoms as well.

Also a proven cardio tonic, Motherwort is a useful addition to any strengthening and supportive heart tonic. It is especially useful for those with heart palpations, nervousness and anxiety. Motherwort gives us strength and calm in our hearts, and helps us to find our selves lion-hearted.
