Plant Family
Asteraceae (Daisy Family)

Habit
Mounding habit with deep-green feathery leaves that resemble Tansy (T. vulgare). Blooms prolifically all summer from the first year onward with bright-yellow daisy-like flowers. Plants are evergreen in mild climates.

Sun/Soil
Prefers a spot that is dry with full sun. Will grow in regular garden soil, and deficient soil. Recommended to grow it in full sun and dry conditions for more potent plants.

Germination/Sowing
The seeds germinate easily and can be direct sown in spring or fall. They may also be started in flats and transplanted out.

Growing/Care
The plants can be cut back after flowering to encourage more blooms and keep the habit tidy.

Harvesting
The flowers are harvested when the plants are in bloom throughout the spring, summer, and fall. They are generally dried before use.

Culinary Uses
None known, but the plant is considered edible.

Medicinal Uses
Dyer’s Chamomile is commonly used as a dye plant and produces a nice golden yellow colour that tends to be more colour-fast than some other natural pigments. The flowers can also be drunk as a tea. Medicinally, Dyer’s Chamomile is known as an antispasmodic and emmenagogue, though not commonly used in modern herbal medicine.
