Learn From a Working Herbalist
Real gardens. Real harvests. Real medicine.
This course grows out of over two decades of hands-on practice — cultivating medicinal herbs, foraging wild plants, and crafting fresh-plant remedies on Vancouver Island.
Jessy Delleman is the founder of Ravensong Seeds & Herbals, where more than 250 seed varieties are grown and saved, and fresh-plant tinctures are made exclusively from herbs grown and gathered on the land.
Her teaching is rooted in lived experience — from field and forest to finished medicine — and in guiding students through both in-person apprenticeship and seasonal online learning.
The Herbal Harvester draws directly from this lived experience.
Not theory alone — but how we actually grow, harvest, and make medicine.

Frequently Asked Questions
A few practical details to help you feel steady and informed.
Is this course beginner friendly?
Yes. The Herbal Harvester is designed for all levels. The lessons build gradually through the season with clear demonstrations and practical guidance. Whether you are just starting out or refining an existing practice, you can move at a steady, manageable pace.
What climate is this best suited for?
The course is rooted in a temperate coastal climate, but the principles of seasonal timing and plant development apply broadly. Students in many regions adapt the timing to their local growing season using the same foundational approach.
Do I need a large garden?
Not at all. The practices shared can be applied to small gardens, raised beds, wild spaces, or even containers. The focus is on seasonal awareness and skill-building, not the size of your space.
Do I need prior herbal training?
No formal training is required. A basic familiarity with herbs helpful, but the course focuses on practical, seasonal skills rather than academic herbalism. You learn by observing, tending, harvesting, and making — in real time.
How much time does the course require?
Each monthly lesson is designed to be practical and manageable. Most students spend 1–2 hours engaging with the material, along with whatever time they choose to spend in their gardens or kitchens applying it. You can move at your own pace.
Is this a certification program?
No. This is a practical seasonal learning course designed to support your personal herbal practice. The emphasis is on skill, rhythm, and real-world application.
What if I miss a harvest window?
Each lesson remains available to you long term, so you can return to it next season, or any season to come. Herbal learning is cyclical. If you miss something this year, the plants will come again — and you will be even more prepared.
Is there support if the course is self-guided?
Yes. During your first growing season inside the course, you have direct access to Jessy for questions and seasonal guidance. While the lessons are self-paced, you are not navigating the season alone.
Are there opportunities for in-person learning with you beyond this course?
Yes. For those who feel called to deeper, hands-on immersion, there are additional in-person opportunities that can be woven alongside The Herbal Harvester, including — a seasonal Herbal Medicine Making Intensive on the land, a Seasonal Farm Internship, a more in-depth Herbal Apprenticeship Program.

What Students Are Saying
Reflections from students who have moved through a full growing season inside the course.
“I wasn’t sure I was knowledgeable enough to take this course, but it met me exactly where I was. The structure made everything feel manageable, and I found myself looking forward to the first of each month for the next lesson to arrive. By the end of the season, I wasn’t second-guessing myself anymore — I was harvesting with confidence. The recipes and medicine-making videos are so practical, and the monthly Harvesting Chart takes the guesswork out of knowing what to gather and when.”
“This is the first herbal course that actually helped me apply what I was learning in real time. I wasn’t just collecting information — I was building skills I use every week.”
“This program nourished me throughout the entire growing season. Each month felt like a steady companion — reminding me of the spirit of growing, harvesting, and processing medicine plants. Herbalism can often feel solitary, but your lessons were like a friend cheering me on. Every month I used the teachings in my own practice and shared techniques with my students. The lessons are so complete that many of my questions were answered before I even had to ask them.
I learned how to replant root crowns properly, how to double-infuse lichens and mushrooms, how to grind dried calendula, and even how to turn spruce tips into a cocktail. The practical details changed the way I work. As the season closed with our first hard frost, I felt more knowledgeable, more confident, and more joyful in my practice. I now move into winter with a deeper relationship to the plants and a fuller apothecary to support my community. This course is a gift I will return to again and again.”
“Perfect timing — my herbs were ready to be processed, and your level of detail is exceptional as always. The seed-saving demo was so clear I can already see how it will transform my process next spring. The guidance on drying herbs alone would save any beginner from common mistakes. Every step is demonstrated thoroughly and thoughtfully. As the season slows, your lessons offer reassurance and clarity. I move forward in my gardens with joy and real confidence.”
“Even after decades of wildcrafting, gardening, and working with plants, I learned so much inside The Herbal Harvester. The monthly Harvesting Chart alone is worth it — practical, clear, and incredibly useful. What I appreciated most was how each month invited me to listen more closely to the land and return to the material as the seasons turn. This is a course I will come back to again and again”
“Even though the course is self-guided, I never felt alone. The lessons are so thoughtfully laid out that I rarely had questions — and when I did, I knew support was there. It felt like steady mentorship without pressure.”
