Catmint (Nepeta subsessilis) is a refined, clump-forming perennial valued for its soft green foliage and showy spikes of lavender-blue ombré flowers that bloom from early to mid-summer. Unlike some spreading catmints, this well-behaved species forms tidy clumps and offers repeat blooms when cut back, making it an excellent choice for borders, containers, and pollinator gardens.

Habit
Clump-forming herbaceous perennial reaching 2–3 feet tall and wide. Soft green foliage supports showy upright spikes of rich lavender-blue ombré flowers from early to mid-summer, with repeat blooming when cut back. Well-behaved and non-spreading.

Sun & Soil Requirements
Prefers full sun to partial shade and grows best in well-drained soil with moderate fertility. More tolerant of moisture than many other catmints.

Germination & Sowing Instructions
Seeds may be started indoors in early spring or direct sown outdoors after danger of frost has passed. Germination is reliable with warm soil, typically occurring within 10–21 days under favourable conditions.

Growing & Care
Easy to grow and low maintenance. Deadheading or cutting back after flowering encourages repeat blooms. Water during extended dry periods, especially in the first year. Once established, plants are resilient and dependable.

Harvesting
Flowering stems may be harvested for fresh or dried arrangements when blooms begin to open. Aerial parts may also be harvested in bloom for traditional herbal use.
