Habit
1.5 ft tall. Tiny blue flowers ripen into inflated seed capsules.

Sun/Soil
Full Sun to part shade. Prefers moist, well-drained soil.

Seeds are best direct sown in the fall or the early spring.

Growing/Care
Water regularly during the dry season.

Harvesting
Lobelia is most medicinally potent during the late flower/early seed stage. The entire above ground plant can be harvested and used for medicine.

Culinary Uses
Not recommended.

Medicinal Uses
One of the most powerful antispasmodic and relaxing herbs. Dilates the bronchioles and relaxes muscle spasms in the lungs. Useful in anti-smoking formulas; contains the alkaloid lobeline which fills nicotine receptors. It has been called “the intelligent herb” because it seems to whatever is necessary to promote healing in the body. Emetic in large (or sometimes even small) doses.
